Mid-week Run – The Run to Mount Tamborine
– Meet at the Clubhouse early for 9:00 AM Departure. [View Map]
From the Clubhouse, attendees will drive up to Mount Tambourine where there will be BYO Morning Tea at a private residence belonging to Tery & Maryl Hurst. Please bring your own chairs.
Whilst there, Marilyn and Tery are organizing a special presentation to showcase the life of their friend and the club’s valued club member Heinz Pohl. The car club has been invited to come along and enjoy a poem created especially for Heinz by well-known local poet Robert Raftery, who is a close friend of the Hursts. The club members will also have time to explore the Hursts’ unusual property (Angelhurst Village) and some special cars.
It should be very interesting to meet Robert Raftery. He is Australia’s Picture Writer, the Motivator’s Motivator, a Poet to Australian Olympians, and this country’s leading corporate balladeer. Here is a testimonial by Swimming Coach Laurie Lawrence about some of the works that Robert has produced.
“Life’s pathway has many turns. In the great journey of life, we meet many people. Some of these people influence our lives, a precious few have a profound influence. In early 1996 I was to meet a man who was to have a profound influence on me. I used to fancy myself as a bit of a modern day Henry Lawson, but since meeting Robert, Australia’s Picturewriter, I have become poetically ‘Inert’. I invited Robert to write two lead pieces for the Atlanta Olympics, “We’re Goin for Gold” and “Keepers of the Flame”. Robert also wrote “Kids Alive, Do the Five” for the toddler drowning awareness program I conducted for the Queensland Health Department”.
Once the visit completes, the club will be heading to Jimboomba for Lunch at the local tavern before returning by a slightly different route to that of the one from the club.
This should be a special run in terms of the tribute to Heinz as well as Lunch at a new venue.
